A Little About Debbie Sue Scott
From a young age, I always felt God's presence and had a deep desire to live in a way that pleased Him.
Growing up with a face full of freckles, I truly understood what it felt like to be different. In an effort to overcome this, I often turned to humor, telling jokes in front of the class just to bring smiles to others. Celebrating our differences and living a life focused on God has been the foundation of my joy.
I have had the privilege of serving as a children’s minister, sharing the love of Christ with young hearts.
The gift God has given me is the ability to love others deeply—laugh with them, cry with them, and rejoice in their joys.
My husband and I live on a ranch where we raise cattle. I love horseback riding, collecting eggs from our chickens, and walking our dog, “Boss.”
I am grateful to be a wife, a mother to four children, and a DeeDee to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
My Inspiration For Writing the Freckle-Face Susie Series
In every generation of my family, there was one red-headed, freckled face. I just happened to be the one. All my family members had dark hair and olive skin, making me stand out as the different one. Through this, I learned that being unique and embracing how God created me was not just okay—it was special.
As a child, I would imagine Jesus sitting at the foot of my bed as I recounted the day’s events before falling asleep. I went through school believing everyone loved me because I loved them in return. I would stand in front of the class, telling jokes to bring joy to others. My goal was always to make people happy.
Losing my father at the age of 22 was a deep loss, and I faced another heartbreaking loss in 2003 when my first husband passed away at the age of 44. Despite these challenges and the pain of questioning why God would take two God-fearing men from my life, I never lost sight of the truth that God was always in control.
The talent God gave me is the ability to love others, to laugh, to cry, and to celebrate their happiness with them.
